The One Most People Should Buy

The Rogue Ohio Bar is the best barbell for the majority of home gym owners. It handles squats, bench press, deadlifts, cleans, and presses without compromise. The knurl is grippy without being aggressive, the 28.5mm shaft fits comfortably in most hands, and the bronze bushings provide smooth enough rotation for Olympic movements while staying durable for years.

At around $295, it is not the cheapest option. But the Made-in-USA construction and lifetime warranty mean you will never need to buy another barbell. For a deeper look, read my full review after a year of use.

Best on a Budget

The Rogue Echo Bar 2.0 shares the same 190K PSI tensile strength as the Ohio Bar but costs $100 less. You give up bronze bushings (it uses composite), a bit of knurl refinement, and the Made-in-USA build. For someone getting started and watching their budget, those trade-offs are completely reasonable.

If you are not sure whether the Ohio Bar is worth the extra money, I wrote a side-by-side comparison that breaks down exactly what you get for the difference.

Best Women's Bar

The Rogue Bella Bar 2.0 is a proper 15kg women's Olympic bar with a 25mm shaft. The thinner diameter makes a significant difference for hook grip on cleans and snatches. It uses the same quality construction and knurl as the Ohio Bar, just sized for smaller hands and competition standards.

If you are a woman training seriously, or if you are setting up a gym that needs both men's and women's bars, this is the one to get.

For Dedicated Powerlifters

The Ohio Power Bar is what you want if you focus exclusively on squat, bench, and deadlift. It has a 29mm shaft for extra stiffness, more aggressive knurl, and a center knurl that grips your shirt during heavy back squats. These features make it worse for Olympic lifting but better for the big three.

If you are doing a mix of everything, stick with the standard Ohio Bar. The Power Bar is a specialist tool.

How to Choose

Your barbell decision really comes down to two questions. First, what kind of training do you do? If it is a mix of everything, the Ohio Bar wins. If it is pure powerlifting, the Ohio Power Bar. If you need a 15kg bar, the Bella.

Second, what is your budget? If $295 is comfortable, go with the Ohio Bar and never think about it again. If you need that $100 for plates or a bench, the Echo Bar is a solid barbell that will not let you down.

The one thing I would not recommend is buying a cheap no-name bar to save money. A barbell is the piece of equipment you touch every single session. It affects the feel of every lift. This is the wrong place to cut corners.
